Step 1) What specifically do you want?
"I want to start my own business" is not specific. You might be surprised when I talk to entrepreneurs at how vague a lot of them are with their outcomes. The mind wants - needs - to know where you are going and what you want.
You must have a clear picture in mind of exactly what you want. You must know what the outcome will be, the end result. What will you see, hear and feel when you have achieved it?
Step 2) Do you believe 100% that you can achieve it?
It may sound obvious and it is. But if you don't fully believe you can achieve what you want, you won't be 100% behind your goal. And you need that full commitment.
Step 3) Plan how you are going to get there
How are you going to get to your desired destination? Do you have a plan and is it broken down into small, bite size chunks? Doing this and ticking off each step as you proceed adds to your belief system. The brain loves these small wins and will want more of them.
This also builds self-confidence and conquers the thoughts and feelings of being overwhelmed.
Step 4) Gain momentum as quickly as possible
The hardest part of pushing a car is the start. And so it is with success. As Tony Robbins says, "Take massive action". This also reinforces to your unconscious mind that this lofty goal is something that you really want to achieve.
Once you have taken the biggest action step you can to start you off, ensure you do so something each and every day that will drive you towards what you want. Like the pushed car, you don't want it to suddenly stop because then you have to start the push all over again.
Step 5) Test and review often
The idea of breaking down your goal and writing it down is so you can review your progress as well. You should be testing what is working and moving you towards your goal and of course, what isn't working.
This way you can get to your outcome faster by adapting your approach when needed.
Step 6) Persist
Don't believe all the hype. Success can take time. Sure, for some it can be faster than others. But as a general rule it won't happen overnight. You need to be doggedly determined. As the old saying goes, 'Persistence beats resistance'. Keep at it. Keep on pressing on.
"Patience is a bitter plant but has a sweet fruit" German proverb.
So set those big goals. Dream bigger than normal and you will end up surprising yourself.
